We’ve been busy with a couple of major changes to the structure as well as other updates across the framework. The biggest change is the conversion of the Data Types (form inputs) used in the Options Builder into the Forms Builder Library. This will extend the power of the Options Builder for creating theme options using drag and drop across the framework to be extended and implemented by any Plugin or Extension built to work with Runway.
We’ve already used this in two of our own extensions. One is called “Content Types” and allows users to add custom inputs and fields into Custom Post Types. The extension provides and admin interface for creating custom post types, taxonomies and meta fields. The meta fields can use any data type in Runway through the Forms Builder Library to drag and drop, configure defaults and specify the specific parameters of the meta options. You can apply these to any Page, Post or Custom Post Type that you want to build into your theme. All of these things are developed to export with your theme as a Child or Standalone theme when you “package” it for download.
The other extension that includes the Forms Builder Library for adding custom fields and inputs is our Layout Manager. It’s now possible to specify the custom inputs of the Header and Footer areas of the Layout Manager to be specific to your theme.
I’ll be publishing both of these extensions to the Downloads repository available from the Runway admin very soon. Look for more updates from our Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/runwaywp) and as we have bigger announcements they will also be sent via the Email announcements (sign up here: http://runwaywp.com)
